Sobre la identidad de la ballena del Museo Nacional de Historia Natural de Chile

Resumen
Se presentan nuevos antecedentes de la identidad taxonómica de la ballena del hall central del Museo Nacional de Historia Natural de Chile, determinada actualmente como Balaenoptera physalus. Características craneales y datos de la longitud original del ejemplar, no disponibles para la determinación realizada por Yáñez y Sanino (2000), y una revisión de nuevos elementos diagnósticos en la rama mandibular, permiten señalar que podría corresponder a un ejemplar de Balaenoptera borealis. Es posible que en el futuro el desarrollo complementario de análisis moleculares y craneométricos permitirá disponer de una mayor fuente de datos para clarificar con mayor certeza esta situación.

Abstract
The identity of the whale housed in the National Museum of Natural History of Chile. New
background of the taxonomic identity of the central hall's whale of the National Museum of Natural
History of Chile are presented. Currently determined as Balaenoptera physalus. Cranial features and
data the original length not available for the determination made by Yáñez and Sanino (2000), and a
review of new diagnostic elements in the mandible, would note that the specimen may correspond to
Balaenoptera borealis. It is possible that in the future development of complementary molecular and
craniometric analysis will provide a major source of data to clarify this situation with greater certainty.
